By-elections 2024-2025

A by-election for the position of Councillor No. 6 will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025. The Municipality is not divided into districts as defined by law, so all eligible voters in the Municipality will be able to vote. January 10, 2025 to January 24, 2025: Period for filing nomination papers

January 19, 2025: Last day to receive applications for registration and proxies (non-domiciled voters only)

February 11, 2025: Last day to apply for voting by mail (non-domiciled voters only)

February 1 to February 13, 2025: Potential period for the Board of Revision

February 16, 2025 from 12 am to 8 pm: Advance polling day

February 23, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.: Election Day

The conditions required to be a voter are as follows:

  • 18 years of age on February 23, 2025;

AND on December 3, 2024:

  • be a natural person (thus excluding a legal person such as a company);
  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • not be under curatorship;
  • not be disqualified from voting under section 53, i.e. not have been convicted of an offence constituting a corrupt electoral practice;

AND meet one of the following two conditions on the same date:

1.be domiciled on the territory of the Municipality and, for at least six months, in Quebec;

OR

2. have been, for at least 12 months, the owner of an immovable or the occupant of a business establishment located on the territory of the Municipality.

If you are not domiciled on the territory of the Municipality, you may be entitled to vote if you have owned a building or occupied a business establishment in the Municipality for at least 12 months on December 3, 2024.

To be eligible, you must also:

  1. be 18 years of age on February 23, 2025;
  2. be a natural person;
  3. be a Canadian citizen on December 3, 2024;
  4. not be under curatorship and not have lost your electoral rights by December 3, 2024.

To exercise your right to vote, you must submit the appropriate document:

  • If you are the sole owner of an immovable or the sole occupant of a business establishment, an application for registration:  SMR-9.2-VA inscription sole owner
  • If you are one of the co-owners of an immovable or co-occupants of a business establishment, a power of attorney designating a single person, among yourselves, who will be entered on the list: SMR-9.1-VA inscription power of attorney

For the application to be valid for the current election, you must submit your form no later than January 19, 2025 to the Returning Officer or via the Board of Revisors on February 11, 2025.

The application or proxy remains valid until it is replaced or withdrawn. If you wish to replace or withdraw an existing application or proxy, please contact the Returning Officer.

Non-domicilied electors notice

To be eligible for election as a member of Council, a person must:

1) have the right to be registered on the Municipal electoral list (this does not mean that he or she must be registered on the list), see the above qualifications for electors;

2) have resided continuously or not on the territory of the Municipality for at least the last twelve months on December 3, 2024.

You must complete the attached declaration of candidacy form: SM-29-VA nomination paper

The main role of the Board of revisors is to receive applications for entry on, removal from or correction of the list of electors, analyze said applications and decide whether or not to accept them.

The Commission will be held between February 1 and February 13, 2025, unless a proclamation is issued by an unopposed elected official.
